pulledpork

Pulled pork takes a few hours of love so save this one for the weekend. Or you could put it in the slow cooker overnight 😀

You will need:

  • 1kg of Pork shoulder
  • 2tbs smoked paprika
  • 2tsp cayenne pepper
  • 2 cups of tomato puree
  • 1tbs tomato paste
  • 1 large onion, quartered
  • 4 bulbs of garlic
  • Your choice of hot sauce or bbq sauce

Suggestions for burger filling:

  • pickles
  • coleslaw
  • pickled red onion and apple
  • sliced cheddar

  1. Trim the fat off the pork shoulder before seasoning with the paprika, cayenne pepper, salt and pepper.
  2. Heat a large heavy bottom pot or dutch oven with canola oil on medium heat. Brown the pork shoulder on all sides.
  3. Add in the quartered onion and garlic bulbs and tomato puree and paste.
  4. Top up with water until the pork is covered.
  5. Cover with a lid and pop into the oven at 200C for 3 hours.
  6. After 3 hours test the pork with a fork, it should be nice and soft. Then remove the pork from the pot and leave to rest.
  7. Heat the pot back up on the stove to reduce and thicken the sauce. When it’s a nice thick consistency pass it through a sieve into a heat proof bowl.
  8. Shred the pork using two forks and add to the sauce. Stir it all together along with your favourite hot sauce (or if you prefer it to be not as spicy, Bbq sauce) until the mixture is nice and wet.
  9. Enjoy on a nice toasted burger bun with your choice of filling!
